The electives, both free and recommended, provides a flexible and crucial role in delineating between specialization courses under the two tracks, Literature and Cultural Studies and Literature Across the Professions. In conjunction with the Thesis and Practicum, the electives have to cohere around a major or an area of concentration. For instance, a student whose interest, talent and career plan tend toward creative writing might take up additional creative writing courses as their electives, write a novel for their Thesis, and train in a magazine company for their Practicum. The minimum number of electives is four (4), or 12 units.
